Tuition and fees normally required for students will be waived for qualifying seniors, 65 years or older and a resident of the District of Columbia on a space availability. Courses are held at the Community College and the University.
American University’s Community Audit program allows individuals ages 55 and older who live in the 20016, 20015, 20008, and 20007 zip codes to audit one course per semester. Read more.
The Katzen Arts Center brings all the visual and performing arts programs at AU into one 130,000 square foot space. Designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in the arts, the new center provides state-of-the-art instructional, exhibition, and performance space for all the arts disciplines. Free yoga classes, exhibits, openings, and lectures.
Membership in OLLI provides a daytime opportunity for increased social interaction and new friendships through participation in study groups. Gathering in social spaces and attending trips provide additional opportunities for socializing. Cost is $300 for a semester or $550 for both fall and spring semesters. Members can take up to three classes a semester. Free lectures. Scholarships available.

The YMCA offers adult swim, strengthening, exercise, nutrition, cooking classes.
The Shaw library offers English conversation, adult learning, GED, writing, improvisation, and other programs. Intergenerational programs abound.
